Two Months until the Largest Prayer Meeting on Earth: Global Day of Prayer 2008

Two Months 'til the Largest Prayer Meeting on Earth

In July 2000, God captured the heart of a South African Christian businessman, Graham Power, with a vision based on 2 Chronicles 7:14. The vision had three clear instructions: to call Christians from all denominations in Cape Town, across the rest of South Africa and Christians in Southern Africa to unite in a Day of Repentance and Prayer

In March of 2001 more than 45 000 Christians united to pray at Newlands Rugby Stadium in Cape Town. It was a day of intense intercession that transformed lives and was reflected in a changing city in the months to come. Testimonies of transformation caused the vision to be spread into the rest of South Africa, from there to the rest of Africa and from Africa to the rest of the world.  On Pentecost Sunday, 15 May 2005, Christians from 156 of the 220 nations of the world united across denominational and cultural borders for the first Global Day of Prayer. In the months following this day, Christians were overwhelmed by the testimonies of God’s powerful work in answer to prayers.

This move of prayer is still miraculously expanding. In 2006 millions of Christians from 199 nations united in prayer and in 2007 even more Christians from 204 nations participated.  More Christians are involved in the 10 Days of day and night prayer leading up to the Global Day of Prayer, as well as in the 90 Days of Blessing where prayer is expressed in acts of mercy and kindness in local communities.

The process to saturate all the nations of the globe in prayer is continuing and your nation is invited to participate in 2008.  With less than 2 months to go to 11th May 2008, excitement is building around the globe.  Many nations are busy mobilizing their countries and communities and reports are coming in of growing numbers of events.

The vision is to see all 220 nations of the world participate in this year’s Global Day of Prayer process.  Currently 186 nations have registered to participate, the 10 Day Prayer Guide and Prayer for the World is translated into 33 languages and the video of the prayer in 2007 is available in 18 languages.

We URGENTLY need your help to make contact with the remaining nations yet to join us in prayer.  To find the latest list of nations involved please visit the Global Day of Prayer website or email Isebel Spangenberg
